Death Sentences
Maxwell sentenced 90 rebels to death, but only 15 sentences were carried out. Maxwell planned to end Irish nationalism by executing the rebel leaders. However, the Irish public was outraged by these executions, creating a greater desire for Irish independence. "Shoot them down, but we will rise. 'Bloody Maxwell' has the wrong opinion about us."
