Saturday

General Maxwell gave orders to British Commander General William Lowe to refuse anything short of an unconditional surrender.
"The most rigorous measures will be taken by me to stop the loss of life and damage to property which certain misguided persons are causing by their armed resistance to the law."
- General John Maxwell
After praying the rosary, the rebels surrendered to the British at 3:45 PM.
"Imprisonment is worth it, if our country is to live. Should our country suffer, our suffering is for nothing."

Death Sentences

Maxwell sentenced 90 rebels to death, but only 15 sentences were carried out. Maxwell planned to end Irish nationalism by executing the rebel leaders. However, the Irish public was outraged by these executions, creating a greater desire for Irish independence.
"Shoot them down, but we will rise. 'Bloody Maxwell' has the wrong opinion about us."
